What is a mud run? It is an adventure race that has lots of muddy obstacles. Most of the race will be through natural terrain (woods) with obstacles throughout the course. More info on the course and obstacles can be found HERE.
How long is the Kalamazoo Mud Run? Approximately 5K (3.1 miles).
What is the Kids Mud Run? A safer shorter version of the regular Mud Run for kids 6-12 years old. Children under age 6 are not allowed to participate. The course is about 1 mile with plenty of obstacles fun and challenging for kids.
Can kids run in the 5k? The starting age for the 5k is 12 years old. However, if you feel your younger child is physically prepared for the 5k, they must have a registered adult run with them.
Can parents run with their kids in the Kids Mud Run? Yes, one adult can run for FREE with each child. The adult must sign a waiver to run with their child. Adult kids run waivers will be available at packet pick-up/check-in.
If I want to run in more than one event, do I need to register more than once? Yes, you would need to register for every event that you wish to run in. The number of runners on the trail must be regulated for safety , security and to make the event a positive experience for all participants.
Can I volunteer? Yes! We need many volunteers to provide a fun, safe and successful event. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the form on the Volunteer Page.
How are the proceeds used? The majority of the funds will go to ActiveWater to help provide clean drinking water for roughly 10,000 people in the village of Kaloko, Zambia, Africa. A percentage of the event's net proceeds will be donated to Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes to provide food for those in need in Kalamazoo. A portion of the proceeds will be used the to cover the costs of creating and operating the event. Most of the materials, labor and marketing have been donated by our generous sponsors.
Can I make an additional donation to the Mud Run charities? Yes, there is a DONATE button located at the top of the website and donations will also be collected the day of the event. Even if you aren't participating, all donations will help Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes and the ActiveWater clean water projects.
REGISTRATION and PACKET PICK-UP:
Where can I register? Online registration is now open. If spaces are available, you may also register in person at Packet Pick-up or on-site the day of the race. A printable registration form will be available soon.
How do I know if you received my online registration? A couple of ways. First, you will be re-directed to a confirmation page on the KalamazooMudRun.com website. You will also receive an email confirmation.
What are the categories and age divisions? Click here to view the categories and divisions. If you just want to have fun and aren't too concerned about "winning", sign up in one of the non-competitive "fun" categories. If you want to race competitively, register in one of our competitive categories.
Do you allow refunds? Sorry. We cannot process refunds.
When is packet pick up?

3. Race day starting at 7am
Can someone else pick up my packet for me? Yes, but they must show your printed registration confirmation to pick up your packet. Otherwise, you can just pick your own packet up on site race day. They will be asked to complete an additional waiver on your behalf for insurance purposes. If you pick up on race day, please arrive at least one hour early.
How old do I have to be? To run in the 5K Mud Run, you must be at least 12 years old. If you are under 18 years old, you must have a parent/guardian sign a waiver. Kids under 12 can receive permission to participate in the 5k if they run with a registered adult. If you're 6-12years old, you can run in the Kids Mud Run. All age requirements are as of race day.
What time does the race start?
8:00am - 5k Trail Run (No Mud)
8:30am - Solo Competitive Mud Run
8:40am - Solo Fun Mud Run
9:00am - Team Mud Run Wave #1
9:15am - Team Mud Run Wave #2
9:30am - Team Mud Run Wave #3
10:00am - Kids Fun Mud Run
How long will it take to run the race? That's hard to say but given it is a 5K (3.1 mile) course, it will probably take 30 minutes to 1 ½ hours.
Is there a time limit? NO. The race officials do have the right to enforce a time limit for runners that are not trying to finish in a timely manner.

What time is check-in? If you didn't pick up your race packet prior to race day, you need to arrive at least 1 hour before the race. You will be called to go to the Starting Line approximately 30 minutes before your wave start time.
What time should I arrive? You can arrive anytime at least an hour ahead of your race time. We recommend planning to get there at least 1 hour in advance in case there is heavy traffic approaching the event or on-site parking is full and you have to use off-site parking.
Can we run together as a large group? Yes, as long as you all arrive and line up at the same time. Then you will run in the same heat. Stay together as the line forms for the start of your race. Heats will be designated by your position in line, so stay close to each other.
What is a co-ed team? Any team that has both males and females on it.
How many people can be on a team? Any number of people age 12 and up can be on a team. Teams can be all male, all female or coed. For awards, the team time will determined by averaging all of the times of everyone on the team.
Can I register the day of the race? Yes, if spaces are still available. Go to the "Check In" tent. Keep in mind that it is more expensive the day of the race.
How do I get my timing chip? Your timing chips will be in your race packet.
Do I have to wear my race number or bib? Yes. A visible race number will be required to participate. Timed event participants must also wear their chip.
How hot will it be? The average temperatures in the Kalamazoo Mud Run area on June 13 are highs of 75F and lows of 55F. We will have water stations on the course for runners.
What if it rains? Perfect! That means more mud and more mud is good! The race will go on. We will delay the event if there is dangerous weather. There will be not be any refunds due to weather delays or changes.
Can I get cleaned up after the race? Yes! We will have rinsing stations for race participants. Be sure to bring a towel and some clothes to change into. A changing area will be available.
Can I wear a costume? Yes, you can wear costumes as long as it does not impair your vision or breathing. There will be a contest for costumes so have fun and be creative. Just remember, this is a kid-friendly event so please use discretion.
Where can I leave my things while I am running? There will be an area for runner-checked items. We suggest that you bring a towel and a change of clothes.
How will I know my time or the race results? Our goal is to post the results within an hour. If we do not, we will update the results page with more information on when to expect the results to be posted.
When are the awards given for the competitive divisions? Shortly after the race results are known, reviewed, and made official. Our goal is to present the awards within 60 minutes of the top finishers finishing.
Do I have to be present to receive my award? No, but we hope you will be. We will contact you after the event, via the email you provided during registration to let you know how to pick up your award.
Will you have someone taking photos during the event? Yes. Rhino Media Productions will be shooting video and taking some still photos. A photo booth will be available near the finish line and photos will be posted online.
Can we practice or survey the course prior to running it? The course development work will be taking place right up until race day. However, if we are able to complete the course, we may be able to open it for practice runs. Registered participants will be notified via email if course practice times are available.
How many obstacles are there? There will be as many at 20. Obstacle descriptions will be posted before the event.
Do I have to know how to swim? Some water may be waist high to an adult. Safety volunteers will be near all of the water obstacles.
How much does it cost to be a spectator? Nothing, it's free!
Will there be viewing areas? Yes, you will be able to view at least a couple of the obstacles.
Can I go out onto the course as a spectator? No. Only registered participants are allowed on the course. The course is designed to allow viewing of some great obstacles.
Is there a VIP section? Nope. Everyone is VIP!
Where do I park? If you are a registered mud runner, you can park at Comstock High School. When the lots are full, we will direct you to the off-site parking. You can walk to the starting line or take a shuttle. Please arrive at least 45 minutes to one hour before your race time.
Will I be able to bring my RV into the event? No. Sorry...not enough room.
How much does parking cost? Nothing. It's free.
Can we tailgate? No. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed anywhere at the event.
